This story follows on the trail of the
Combo-Orks, only this one is a quest in progress. It begins with a request by someone looking to confirm the existence of something called the
Prom Series, a legendary set of band books, high-school grade swing arrangements produced in the late 40's and early 50's by the then-new rebel band music publisher
Kendor, the series penned by Kendor co-founder, the great Art Dedrick. Well
that got me started.
And on the trail I hit the best confirmation of a dream one could hope to find, a catalog listing the works in the Prom Series, and it was an impressive list, a full repertoire for any self-respecting high-school danceband of the post-war years, and so off I ran to tell all my like-minded friends, only, whether SOPA related or not, by the time I announced my find, the find had been retracted, erased, 404'd from living memory. What? This was only a 3 page catalog of tunes once upon a time for sale, surely it couldn't have raised anyone's ire to have it posted online. Was the host site simply unaware of the document, and this sudden traffic for something other than what they had to sell got on their bad side and warranted a retraction? The main body of their site certainly mentioned nothing of the sort. But whatever, there she was, gone.
Never you mind lads, TeledyN is here and while I didn't find it in my browser cache (are these things intentionally obfuscated these days for reasons too sinister to tell?) I did find it still in the Google preview cache and from there re-transcribed into a somewhat ill-focussed PDF that I couldn't say for certain is any worse than the original, but nonetheless, here 'tis, gone from there, re-assembled here, and that's how the Internet works. Enjoy.
And if anyone just happens to have any of these old Prom Series books laying about, digital or otherwise, do ping us a comment, ok?
