Wardriving the Beach

I spent some time tonight (while watching Muppets From Space with May and the younger kids) downloading, compiling and install the Kismet WiFi Sniffer on my laptop so when Linton called for his after-work pickup, I got my very first experience in cottage-country war-driving.

Sauble Beach is really fairly remote, 30km from any town of more than 5000, but it is a vacation hotspot -- I suppose I shouldn't be that surprised to find two, and possibly three access points by simply driving 6 blocks down the lakeshore road and up the main street as far as the lights. I need to learn the Kismet display, but I'm pretty certain there is a Linksys access point running factory defaults (tsk, tsk) about 100 meters North of Dobson's, and one, maybe two 'Default' and unnamed ports along the beach-end of the main drag, one just east of Patches, the other just west of the lights (which could be a second channel on the other, and yes, we have only one set of traffic lights).

If there's two ports at half-past midnight along those two short stretches of village, I'll wager there's more lurking in the daytime woods. If anyone would like to donate a Linux-friendly GPS my way ...
