Another notch in the gun, another feather in the cap, call it what you will, Roland tips us to an announcement from TuCows Blogware on their
quick-to-market deployment of Review Metadata for their BlogWare product:
Sitting at the core of this feature is support for the RVW module for RSS 2.0, an extension to the RSS specification that "...allows machine-readable reviews to be integrated into an RSS feed, thus allowing reviews to be automatically compiled from distributed sources."
Reviews, eh? You don't say ... Machine readable reviews? From multiple sources? And before you think my fledgling project here has been scooped, fear not, for this is the work of the Accordion Guy whom I am certain was
perfectly in tune with the rest of the TuCows crowd in pushing the RVW extensions as an open specification open for any blog kit to implement and join in the party.
For present purposes, Review Metadata is a serendipidous bridge between the vertical industry-network of the One Track Mind into the blogrolling cosmos of the mainstream -- it adds a bit of work to our job jar, but comes tailor-made for precisely our purposes.
So it is possible, even after deconstructing the economic-recovery rhetoric you can still innovate yourself to the fore -- providing, as Roland points out, you have the skills, the vision and the requisite business resolve; TuCows had what it took, making it work by producing something users wanted and taking the full-force financial risk to make something technically (and net-ecologically) sound.
