More IP Madness: Wal-Mart Copyrights Prices
Friday, December 20, 2002

This one comes via the latest JOHO who tells of a NYTimes piece "Internet Sites Delete News of Sales by Big Retailers":

"We believe copyright covers a compilation of facts..."

Wal-mart sent orders to 7 websites reporting Wal-Mart prices, and, under the US DMCA law, these sites were required to remove the 'offending' material on being notified of its presence by a copyright holder.

Now contrast that Stalin-ite world-view with the intellectual pyramid schematic of the blog-like collaborative spirit of Talmudic scholarship ... or really with the open sharing of almost any cultural construct pre-WWI...

Are you still a supporter of 'intellectual property' protection?
