Where is Salam Pax?
Thursday, March 20, 2003

If you don't know the blog "where is Raed" ask Google to find it for you. The first obvious question though, and I admit it occurred to me: Is Salam Pax (not his real name) really posting from Baghdad? According to Paul Boutin, a technology writer for Slate, Wired, The New York Times, Salon and others, yes.

In the face of the tarrantellism of the war-dance, skepticism is a precious commodity, but I have to agree with Paul that Salam's knowing more about what's on Iraqi radio than the BBC was a pretty powerful bit of pursuasion. Paul fact-checked Salam's backside on a few more issues, and he's come out clean on them all, and considering the frankness of his views, he doesn't seem particularly CIA-like.
