The Panic Virus

"And now the good news..." by Nury Vittachi offers some sane points of rational order on catsars.jpgSARS awareness ...

There is a dangerous virus spreading through Hong Kong. It is not atypical pneumonia. It is panic.

And it's true. 96% survival sounds a whole lot better than the "4% death rate" quoted today on CFOS, and as the WHO site points out, any tally of 'suspect' cases is itself suspect for a disease that is only known by what we know it is not. Nury's article lists 12 points of what we do know about SARs, and while only time will tell, right now, it adds up only to a molehill.

attention TTC passengers: there is absolutely no reason to be giving your subway seat to that accordion guy, no matter how much he sniffles, how ever much he might bat those puppy eyes at you, nor however much sorta-asian-like he might look.
