There's not just Ken and I who are among those blogging musicians who foolishly pursue dreams of a day job, but Seb has started a small blogroll of the more bravely dedicated culture-makers doing the blog thing:
In Online Communities and the Future of Culture I claimed that all kinds of culture-makers were getting online because it rewarded them with more meaningful contacts with people who can appreciate their work.
Why this is so maybe takes us back to the Sifry-Searls Test where any community of interest who takes the time to blog soon discovers itself as the site with the juice, and since musicians (I know for fact) can't afford to do anything less than the most efficient, it's perhaps not surprising they've taken to the medium; the only obstacle I've seen is not a lack of will, but a lack of skill to overcome the current crop of tools -- while some (especially and paradoxically electronica artists and fiddle players) have no problems fighting webforms and HTML, others are too focused on what they do to worry about picking up a spare Computer Science degree on the side, and, like Janis Ian, let the fans do most of the talking.
