Were you smiling? 10/03/06 GEOS-5 portrait of Earth

Did you feel like you were being watched on Saturday? In fact, you were, and we have the pictures right here to prove it. Reacting to the groundswell of admiration for its full-disk pictures of Earth we showed you last week, the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Scientific Visualization Studio uploaded these brand new shots of our blue marble, taken Saturday, March 6, 2010.

The scientists from Goddard were amazed at the reaction all around the blogosphere to the shot of the earth we showed you a couple of weeks ago, especially since it's been the default wallpaper on the iPhone since its debut, and has been around for years. They figured they'd really dazzle us with these even-sharper and newer shots, and they've succeeded in a profound way. Be sure to click on the pictures in the gallery below for intense enlargements.

But wait, that's not the half of it. The most spectacular visual of our planet is one we can't paste in here, but it will be worth your while to follow this link and be astonished by an HD moving image of the Earth as it looked on a single day, on January 2, 2009. These were all taken by the GEOS-5 satellite (Goddard Earth Observing System Model, Version 5). Before it became grossly overused, this is what the word "awesome" really meant. So were you smiling? We are now.

Meteor Lights up Alberta's Night Sky

November 20, 2008 - A meteor or a unknown flying object lite up the night sky of Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada. The unknown light lite up the sky at about 5:30pm MST, and various witnesses said there was also a loud boom in the sky aswell. Here is a news clip from Global Calgary Late Night News Edition that highlights this strange event.

Nasa Photo Shows Human-like Figure On Mars

Monster Island News: "According to NASA this photo was taken by the Intrepid Spirit Rover on the edge of Mars’ Gusev crater back in November of 2004. The image appears to show a human-like figure climbing down a rocky slope. NASA, however, hasn't made any comment on the image which was posted on their website Wednesday."

Apollo 14 astronaut claims aliens HAVE made contact - but it has been covered up for 60 years: in what seems like it should be front-page of a tabloid, Daily Mail Online writes "Aliens have contacted humans several times but governments have hidden the truth for 60 years, the sixth man to walk on the moon has claimed.

Apollo 14 astronaut Dr Edgar Mitchell, said he was aware of many UFO visits to Earth during his career with NASA but each one was covered up.

Dr Mitchell, 77, said during a radio interview that sources at the space agency who had had contact with aliens described the beings as 'little people who look strange to us.'"

George: "That was a UFO beaming back at ya, the government knows all about them. Ever since they came here they have been working among us in vast quantities ever since."

Billy: "You know what I think? I think that's a crackpot idea! I mean if they're so smart, why don't they just reveal themselves to us and get it over with?"

George: "why don't they reveal themselves is because if they did it would cause wild scale panic."

Billy: "Hey, I saw something man, but I didn't see it working here, you know what I mean?"

George: "It would casue a devastating blow to our system if people found out about them just like that. The aliens are so evolved you know, they don't have monetary systems, they don't have any leaders because each man is a leader. The result of all this has been that the Venutians, he he he ..."

George: "It would cause a devastating blow to our antiquated systems."

Wyatt: "How your joint George?"

George: "Oh, it went out."
